What I offer

Work undertaken

I offer both short and long term individual counselling. I have experience working with a range of issues but I have extensive experience of working with clients with addiction/dependency issues and in particular have specialist training in alcohol misuse and gambling addiction. I have also worked with a wide variety of other issues including self-esteem, bereavement, relationships, anger-management and career counselling.

How I "do" Counselling - my philosophy

I trained as a person-centred counsellor and still use that paradigm as the anchor for the work I do with clients. I do however recognise and believe that everyone's circumstances are unique and that therefore, one size does not fit all. As a consequence I use a more integrative approach to get the best result for each individual.

My view of the therapeutic process is that, given a safe, supportive and confidential environment in which they are listened to and heard, free of any judgement, any client will be able safely to explore feelings and thoughts and bring about change that is beneficial for them.

I am not a "nodding donkey" counsellor; I do not just sit and empathise nor merely reflect back what a client tells me. Whilst always remembering that the only true expert about you is you, I will work with you to address the issues you want to work on by gently challenging your perceptions and encouraging you to explore alternative approaches. I do this at your pace, never being directive nor giving advice and at all times will ensure you are kept safe and supported.
